Why we do it

A celebration that gives back

All proceeds from the charity raffle and the auction go to two projects. We choose them with care, through relationships built over the year.

Survivors of trafficking

Azadi

Azadi is the first survivor-led organisation in Kenya. It gives long-term support to survivors of human trafficking, who often come home with no community to lean on.

Its programmes centre on healing, reintegration and survivor leadership, so that survivors can rebuild their lives and lead the work themselves.

"To enable and nurture safe spaces and communities for survivors of human trafficking to heal, thrive and claim agency."

Young people in Kibera

Inuka Cultural Center

Inuka means "rising" in Kiswahili. It is a youth empowerment programme in Kibera, Nairobi, that uses movement arts, workshops and professional training to widen the life choices open to young people and their communities.

Every programme is free and takes place at the Inuka Studio, at St. George Orthodox Church in Kibera. There are three: Slum Dance Africa, The Empowerment Program for Girls and the Capoeira Angola Center Kibera.

The capoeira centre is where Latin America and Africa meet. Capoeira Angola was created in Brazil by enslaved Africans from Angola and the Congo, and Contra-Mestre Salim Rollins now teaches it to children and adults in Kibera.

"It has always been like a therapy to me." Nasri Babu, capoeirista in Kibera, to Africanews
